Bladder Cancer - South Land Urology and Aesthetics

Bladder Cancer

Bladder cancer affects approximately 70,000 adults in the United States each year. It generally presents in older adults, peaking in the 8th decade of life. Often patients will experience blood in the urine which they can see, or they can have blood in the urine found upon microscopy.

Risk factors for bladder cancer include smoking, environmental exposures and age. It is more common in men and rare to find in patients less than 40 years old.

During an evaluation for bladder cancer you will undergo a thorough medical history and physical examination. You will be asked to give a urine sample. We will likely look into the bladder with a scope and order imaging studies.

If you are found to have a tumor, then we will recommend a procedure in the operating room. This procedure is called a Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor. This can be both diagnostic and curative in some cases. Further treatment and care plans will be based on the results from this surgery.

At South Land Urology we will give you all the tools and resources to make informed treatment decisions. We will help you feel confident in your care plan. We promise to be there with you 100% of the way through this challenging journey.
