Female Incontinence - South Land Urology and Aesthetics

Female Incontinence

female incontinenceUrinary incontinence is defined as involuntary loss of urine. Most often this can occur during physical effort (exercise, cough, sneeze, laugh) or a feeling of urgency.

It is estimated that approximately 49% of women report any kind of urinary incontinence.

Unfortunately there is a misconception that incontinence is “normal” and a part of aging. They may not be aware of the solutions available to treat this condition.

Risk factors for incontinence include vaginal delivery, increased parity, higher BMI, diabetes and family history.

During your evaluation at South Land Urology we will perform a thorough history and physical exam, you will be asked to fill out a questionnaire and possibly take home a voiding diary that will help to characterize your incontinence. Occasionally we will recommend an office cystoscopy and possibly urodynamics.

There are many non-surgical and surgical therapies for incontinence. We will work to find the best and most effective treatment strategy for you.
