A spermatocele is a benign fluid filled cyst that occurs near the testicle. It is non-cancerous and usually painless.
The exact cause of a spermatocele is unknown. There are theories that it may be due to a blocked tube usually used to transport sperm.
During evaluation, a thorough history and physical examination will take place. We may order an ultrasound of the scrotum to ensure normal testicular anatomy.
Treatment of spermatocele is based on your symptoms. If you are not bothered by the cyst, there is no need for intervention. However, if the cyst causes discomfort or pain then surgical intervention is an option.
